This book contains the need-to-know concepts of quantum physics, including the history of how it was discovered, explanations (and thought experiments) outlining its core issues and debates, and the math needed to dive into some of its central problems.
Quantum physics is one of the most conceptually confusing subjects known to science. It’s a subject about which there can be heated, fundamental debates among even the most distinguished experts. The first several chapters focus on exploring the underlying science, how quantum physics ideas were discovered, and the core scientific concepts.

Dealing with obstructions.
To consider why thinking in terms of waves helps, you must recognize that when you have a source of light, the light seems to emanate out in all directions from that source (unless the light is blocked). This motion is like a wave rippling out in all directions from a point source, for example, if you dip your finger into the surface of a still puddle.
But, more importantly, think about what happens when an obstruction gets in the path of light. If waves in water come upon a fallen log blocking their path, when the waves reach the end of the log, they don’t just keep moving in a straight line. Instead, they ripple around the log on the other side.
Something similar happens when you have obstructed light. If you have a light on in a hallway, the light moves down the hallway, but if you’re in a large room at the end of the hallway, the light doesn’t only illuminate whatever lies in a straight line. Some of the light expands to illuminate objects in the room that aren't in the direct path of the hallway. The light goes through the doorway and appears to bend out around the doorway, as if it’s trying to illuminate as much space as possible.
