Left peripheral constructions in English and Hungarian, Szűcs Péter, 2020.

   This monograph investigates discourse-related clause-initial, left peripheral constructions within the framework of Lexical-Functional Grammar (LFG). The following structures are to be scrutinized: English topicalization (TOP), clause-initial adjuncts (CIADJ) and left dislocation (LD-Eng); Hungarian left dislocation (LD-Hun) and operator fronting (OF). The overall goal is to provide an account for these structures, especially with regard to their syntactic and information structural properties and to put them into cross-linguistic and theoretical perspective.

   This book is therefore a celebration of Stephen’s lifetime achievement as a teacher, scholar, thinker, and educational leader and it is my pleasure as the former head of the institution to pen a few words to join in this celebration, albeit as a non-expert in this particular academic field. This book is indeed a fitting recognition of someone who has achieved so much and impacted so many over a number of decades; someone whose career is not yet over and who may yet surprise us with further outstanding achievements and contributions.

   This textbook is English course for students of mathematics. It consists of 12 units based on topics of great interest to everyone studying mathematics. Students are offered a variety of discussion questions as an introduction to each unit. Students will extend their vocabulary by learning useful new words and phrases. Glossary at the end of the course will also help to increase math vocabulary.
Students will read texts from the book 50 mathematical ideas you really need to know by Tony Crilly. Students will develop their reading skills. They will also be able to discuss the issues raised in the extracts from the books mentioned above. As a result they will become more accurate in their use of English at level B2.
