   Predators are born то kill. They feed by catching and eating other animals, which are known as their prey Most predators hunt their prey one by one, but some eat on a gigantic scale, filtering food out of the water by the ton. In addition to true predators, many other animals have а predatory streak. They include omnivores with wide-ranging diets, as well as parasites, blood-feeders, and animals that scavenge dead remains. All these get their food wholly or partly from animals, but true predators are the only ones that must kill to survive.




Changing over time.
Ever since life first appeared on earth, living things have gradually evolved. Evolution is the process of change by which animals, plants, and other living organisms adapt to a changing environment over many generations, passing on the features that help the organisms to survive better. Predators have evolved new shapes and new ways of hunting prey. At the same time, prey animals have evolved new defenses.

Animal evolution takes place over a long period, which makes it hard to see in action. However, it leaves a rich trail of evidence, which is built into every form of life. Biologists first began studying evolution in the 19th century. At first, they noticed evolution by comparing the shapes of fossils with living things. Gradually, they discovered the driving forces behind evolution, which include natural selection, and the way living things pass on features to their offspring. Today, scientists can study evolution with great precision. They can trace the path that В evolution has followed, and find out how closely different kinds of life are related.
