American teenager Emily Hagins showed a strong interest in films and film-making at a young age, and often happily sat through some movies several times at her local movie theatre in Austin, Texas. She once wrote a letter to Peter Jackson, the director of her favourite series of films The Lord of the Rings. In his reply, he suggested a useful contact for Emily, who she later got in touch with.




TRAVELLING WITH A BACKPACK BY ANDY ROBINSON.
Why is it that the people you meet when backpacking seem to be more interesting and easygoing than your friends at home? That’s my experience, anyway. Occasionally you may be unlucky, put in a hostel room with someone you have nothing in common with, but more often than not, you’ll meet people that are fun to visit the local sights with and who are worth getting to know. I’ve spent time with many nationalities and have found out some fascinating things about their cultures, although I’m sometimes embarrassed at how little I know about certain parts of the world.

It's generally very easy to make new friends while you’re travelling, and you’ll be able to hang around with them for a few days, until you or they leave for the next destination. Relationships of this kind are shorter but can be just as strong as friendships back home, because you do so much together in that short time. I often find I'm willing to admit things about myself that I’d never say to my close friends, safe in the knowledge that we probably won’t meet again, except online.
