A Game of Shill.
A lot of people I’ve met playing chess come from families with other chess players. But neither of my parents even knows the rules! And they didn't encourage me to start, either - it was purely my idea. It was during the summer holidays when I was 12 and I had nothing to keep me busy. I was getting really bored, so I bought a chess set in town, and I was hooked immediately!

As I had expected, it took a long time to learn the rules. There were some instructions on the box, but I had to borrow a book from the library and look at some videos online to really understand how everything worked. Of course, going to a chess club is the quickest way to get help, but I’ve always enjoyed learning on my own - I get a big sense of achievement from that!
